Get On Board

“Get On Board” was first published in 1872 by the Fisk Jubilee Singers. If you are not familiar with the work of this national treasure, please visit their website or check out this clip from the PBS special American Roots Music.

The hymn’s spirited heralding of the train’s arrival and its promise of welcome to everyone inspired the theme of this issue. How can we all get on board the train to freedom, justice, and inclusion?

An exquisite traditional version, sung by Paul Robeson, is available on YouTube with the following melody and lyrics.
