Biography

Angela Lloyd’s keynote presentations are simply outside the box. “She is a combination of Maria Von Trapp, Mary Poppins and Tinkerbell” – Donald Davis introducing Angela at the National Storytelling Festival. One of the unique performers on the national storytelling circuit today, Angela tours to regional and national venues for musical storytelling, theatre, and education.

Tailored made for the purpose of your event and the participants the address will feature song, music, story and poetry.

A 30-year veteran of engaging audiences, Angela is a consummate public speaker and visual artist. Are you seeking a presenter to engage and refresh the gathering? The audience will be motivated to muse and share their own experience. It is a natural outcome for Angela’s audience to recall, remember and be reminded of what they simply forgot they already knew. A one-woman band on Washboard, her orchestra includes Autoharp, Baritone Ukulele, Spoon and Bell. Look forward to cantefables – stories from the oral tradition with spontaneous songs as well as wisdom and her unique perspective gleaned from personal experience.

The daughter of a composer and an engineer, Lloyd was raised in South America listening to Carl Orff’s Music for Children, Pete Seeger, Miriam Makeba, and Mitch Miller. As a result her third language was Music.

After earning her MFA at the Florida State/Asolo Conservatory for Professional Actor Training, she was celebrated and encouraged by leaders of the children’s theatre community to tour nationally performing at museums, theatres, schools, libraries, city-wide events. She conducted short and long term residencies as a spoken word/musical teaching artist. A California Arts Council grantee, (2000-2003) Angela was the resident storyteller at The Walden School in Pasadena, CA. The school funded the position independently extending her residency through 2007.

A 2013 Recipient of the NSN Oracle Circle of Excellence Award, the award is presented to artists who are recognized nationally by their peers to be master storytellers.

2009 – Present: Storytelling Teacher, Children’s Community School, Van Nuys, California.
