Bio
I started my professional music career at age 15, playing Greek music in clubs, restaurants, festivals, and concerts. I put down my bouzouki, the mandolin-like instrument central to modern Greek music, long enough to earn a BMus in classical guitar performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. I co-founded the Electric Guitar Quartet, a classical / comedy group that opened for such guitar luminaries as Leo Kottke, Jorma Kaukonen, John Hartford, The Great Guitars (Barney Kessel, Charlie Byrd, and Herb Ellis) and Free Flight.
While I still perform Greek folk music with long-time friend and fellow musician, Notis Contoplianos in our group, The Plaka Band, my focus the last 25 years has been teaching and performing music for children. I have several albums for children: two with my band Hey Mom!, and most recently under my own name, Kathy Sherman and The Good Folk Collective (because I only play with "good folk"). These are Let's Sing!, Let's Sing Songs from Around the World! and my latest, to be completed some time in 2022, Let's Sing Songs for Little Activists!
