Bio
I grew up in a family that sang together. My parents met in their university choir, and together with their five children, sang in our church choirs. They sang by ear but made sure we all learned to read music through taking piano lessons.. At the University of Iowa I sang with the choir and the collegium while studying piano and voice and earning my BM. While teaching lower elementary music in Iowa and New Jersey I studied Orff Schulwerk and enjoyed creating musical chants and story book operas for my classes. After earning my MM at CCNY, I taught in a NYC neighborhood music school and then in private preschools. Working in an international preschool, I began to write my own simple songs that asked for input from the children. After our children were born and my husband and I moved to Westchester County, I again taught preschool music as well as Music Together classes. I directed a children's choir at our Unitarian Church, where I began to write music with multiple voices. I was the music director of the theater productions at our local elementary school, and I often wrote parody songs for our productions. Together with Amy Conley, I produced my first CD, Adirondack Adventure, a 12-song virtual family trip to the wilderness. My song writing continues now even as my teaching has nearly stopped due to Covid.
