Singer/Songwriter Andrew Best creates music for families with children and parents in mind. Best’s
music appeals to children with its whimsy and simplicity, and charms adults with its wit and style!
Best grew up in a musical family in his hometown of Longview, TX. His love of music and the
creative arts brought him to Nashville, TN at the age of nineteen to pursue a B.A. in Songwriting at
Belmont University. While at Belmont, he discovered a knack for writing children’s songs through a
class assignment. He continued writing songs for children through college and released his first
album “Emerson the Moose and Other Songs for Children” in 2012 upon graduating and moving to
Memphis, TN.
“Emerson the Moose and Other Songs for Children” explores various musical genres, from folk to
funk. It also features diverse influences, such as Paul McCartney, Randy Newman, and children’s
favorite Raffi. The album's multifaceted nature gives kids the opportunity to learn various styles of
music in an engaging, and age-appropriate way. One of the album’s highlights “Wiggle Jiggle” is a
brisk, bluegrass-inspired number that brought Best recognition as a semi-finalist in the 2018
International Songwriting Competition.
In 2017, Best released “Outside EP”, a small collection of summer-themed songs celebrating the joy
of the great outdoors from a child’s perspective. One standout track, entitled “Rollercoaster Ride”,
was a favorite of children’s radio shows “Radio Active Kids” and “Saturday Morning Cereal Bowl”.
“Rollercoaster Ride” explores the journey of a child, from facing the fear of riding a rollercoaster for
the first time to the triumph of finishing the ride and eagerly anticipating the next one. The title track
“Outside” meditates on the wonder and majesty one finds in the great outdoors, from the playing
animals and beautiful flowers to the awe-inspiring starry sky.
In April of 2018, Best released a special “Deluxe Edition” of his “Emerson the Moose” album
featuring all-new bonus tracks in addition to all the original favorites. One of the new tracks
"Memphis Moose" is a second chapter in the story of Emerson the Moose in which he explores the
city of Memphis, TN. In addition to the bonus songs, the special reissue featured brand-new artwork
by designer Lindsey Glenn.
Best released his latest single “Crazy Cat!!!” in 2022, and earned a spot as a finalist in the 2023 USA
Songwriting Competition for his song “Sleuthy Sloth” which will be featured on his upcoming
full-length album! He performs regularly at schools, libraries, and other public venues in the
Memphis area and throughout the southern United States.
