CMN is searching for an executive director. 


Job Description

Reporting to the CMN Board of Directors, the Executive Director is a dynamic leader who guides the Children's Music Network in achieving its mission. This role combines strategic vision with hands-on management, focusing on:

Planning and Strategy

  • Work with CMN’s Board, members and staff to engage in short and long-term strategic planning that aligns with CMN’s mission, which celebrates the positive power of music in the lives of children by sharing songs, exchanging ideas and creating community.

  • Engage in ongoing professional development to build knowledge of best practices and new strategies in the nonprofit field. 

Financial Management and Development

  • With the Board’s Treasurer and Executive Committee, develop an annual budget to be approved by the Board. Manage CMN’s resources within the budget’s guidelines.

  • Develop and execute a diversified fundraising plan to build and sustain giving through sponsorships, individual donors and grants.

  • Ensure stability and growth of earned revenue through effective management of membership, programs, events and services.

Program Management

  • Work with CMN’s Board and membership to coordinate the design, marketing, promotion and delivery of CMN’s annual conference and other programming and events, engaging in ongoing analysis of program results.

  • Encourage a vibrant CMN community by helping manage and administer shared virtual spaces and events, including affinity groups, workshops, regional gatherings, listening parties, and other networking events.

Communications & Community Relations

  • Assure that CMN maintains robust communications with the membership through social media, e-newsletters, online publications and similar tools.  

  • Work with CMN’s Board and membership to build outreach to the wider community and engage in collaborative relationships among CMN’s fellow communities of musicians, teachers, librarians, music therapists and others who actively engage with children, especially among arts-related organizations, schools and other educational entities, professional associations, nonprofit organizations and businesses.

Organizational Management

  • Maintain a strong working relationship with CMN’s Board of Directors, keeping the board well-informed on all aspects of CMN’s work.

  • Promote active and broad participation by volunteers in all aspects of CMN’s work.

  • Help develop and support teams of Board members, volunteers and paid staff to carry out the work of the organization, including but not limited to communications, event planning, fundraising, membership and community outreach.  

  • Work with the Board, volunteers and staff to ensure alignment with the organization's brand, voice, and values. Model effective behaviors and skills, build morale and foster teamwork.

  • Ensure that roles and responsibilities are documented and clearly communicated to all CMN staff.

  • Set goals on a regular basis, providing regular (at least annual) performance reviews. Ensure that appropriate and consistent personnel policies and practices are documented, understood by staff, and followed.

Operations

  • Oversee compliance with all local, state, and federal reporting requirements, and jointly with designated officers, execute legal correspondence and documents.

  • Oversee the coordination of internal systems and technology such as use of Wild Apricot to set up and manage events and communications.

Compensation

This is a part-time (20 hours per week) contracted position. Expected pay range $30K-$35K. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in a non-profit organization orrelated field such as education or arts administration

  • 3+ years of experience working at the management levelin an organization or business

  • Knowledge and understanding of the nonprofitbudget process and nonprofit fundraising

  • Excellent writing and communications skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills

  • Experience in planning conferences and events

  • Ability to master all aspects of organizational policy

  • Technological know-how and ability to strategize and troubleshoot on all aspects of organizational communications

  • Demonstrated commitment to the arts and children
