The CMN annual conference is an amazing experience. We share songs, ideas, and resources, plus teaching tools, songwriting techniques, community building skills, and marketing tips. In spontaneous song swaps and networking, as well as in structured workshops and presentations, we expand our knowledge and reignite our spirits. Non-members are welcome to attend.

Keynote Speaker

We are thrilled to announce that our Keynote speaker for the 2017 Conference (#cmnsing2017) is Ken Whiteley!

Ken Whiteley joined the CMN community in 1991 and remains an active and vital member. Ken is a Canadian Roots Music legend – from jug band, folk and swing to blues, gospel and children’s music! Dubbed “a cross between Pete Seeger and Tony Bennett”, Ken’s deep knowledge and infections passion guarantees a good time for all!

Ken has served as Producer for over 135 albums for the likes of Raffi, Fred Penner, Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer and several CMN’ers! He was instrumental in the early days of the birth of what became a children’s music explosion in Canada. Ken created programs for Mariposa In The Schools and Blues in the Schools. A 22-time Juno award nominee and 2-time Grammy nominee, Ken has worked on albums that have sold in excess of 8 million copies.

Come sing and learn from the man Sing Out magazine dubbed “one of the best!”

Magic Penny Award

We are so pleased to announce that the Magic Penny Award recipient for 2017 is our very own CMN member, and past CMN Board president, Sally Rogers.

The Magic Penny Award is given to people who have demonstrated lifetime achievement in the field of children’s music. Sally Rogers has spent her life working as an educator, performer, recording artist and author. Many of us in CMN have experienced Sally’s incredible voice, and gifts as a song leader.

Sally uses her talents not only as a performer and musician, but also as a passionate educator, always trying to find the best window into learning. She is committed to using her skills as an educator, artist and musician to help ALL learners reach their highest potential as human beings. Sally incorporates this passion into her work with both children and teachers. She is an adjunct faculty member at Lesley University, a master teaching artist for the Connecticut Office of the Arts and Arts for Learning Connecticut. Her residencies integrate the arts with standard classroom curriculum to reach all learners. In addition Sally is a keynote speaker and workshop leader at many conferences.
